Batten down the hatches, ya’ll
The outskirts of Hurricane Irene may just be beginning to invade the Lowcountry, but it has already caused plenty of issues. About 2,600 residents on Folly Beach are without power and there was a down power line on Folly Road. Everyone be as safe as possible if you’re out on the Edge of America!
There are also plenty of schools already closed or closing early. Many Holy City events and business have been canceled or closed as well.
Not everyone is closing up shop though. In typical Charleston fashion, plenty of businesses and locales are planning “Hurricane Parties.”
Ivory Moon in Summerville is one such business. They’ve created a Facebook event promoting a party tonight.
Here are the details straight from the event invite: “BRING YOUR CANDLE, LIGHTERS, LANTERNS AND BE READY TO PARTY IN THE DARK! BY 10PM IF IRENE HASNT CUT OUR POWER OFF, WE WILL! LIVE MUSIC ALL NIGHT AS WE PARTY BY THE CANDLE LIGHT! $3 HURRICANES $3 IRENE SHOTS $2 JELLO INJECTORS, $5 MISSLES!!! LET SEE WHAT HAPPENS IN THE DARK UNDER THE FULL MOON! IRENE WON’T KNOW WHAT HIT HER WHEN SHE VISITS SOUTH CAROLINA!!!”
Whatever you choose to do, be safe!
As long as safety isn’t an issue, be sure to follow Irene updates on Twitter and add your own pictures and updates! Use hashtag “#irene”
