Places of Worship :: The Great Hall on the Market

Published

on

The New York Times recently ran an article about the facelift the Charleston City Market received. The reporter mentions how the Market is not just for tourists anymore and I somewhat agree. It’s still very much a place for out-of-towners to spend their expendable income, but I was pretty impressed with all the changes.

Despite some very modern additions, the City Market remains true to it’s 200+ year history. There is now an enclosed section just after the Daughters of the Confederacy Museum. Inside this air-conditioned area are several of the more popular booths that used to be in the open-air section. There are also two places to purchase food (Caviar & Bananas and a BBQ stand).

The rest of the market is still very similar to it’s classic look, but some necessary updates have been made including some fans to help cool the area off.

If you haven’t had a chance to see the updates, head on down to Market Street and see them for yourself!
