Stars Opens, Next Door Closes

Published

on

The fickle nature of the restaurant industry was evident this past Friday (10/5) in the Lowcountry. On a day when downtown was celebrating the opening of a much-anticipated establishment, the Mt. Pleasant community was saddened by the closing of another.

Stars Restaurant & Grill Bar, headed by executive chef Nathan Thurston, finally opened its doors on King Street. They surprised many people by announcing their grand opening on their Facebook Page just hours before unlocking the doors.

Stars had been drumming up excitement for months, especially after Eater included it on their list of the nation’s most anticipated restaurant openings.

Sadly on that same day Stars was making headlines, Next Door in Mt. Pleasant was shutting its doors for good. The restaurant announced the closing on their Facebook page saying:

“Thank you for all of your support. Due to unforeseen circumstances, tonight will be our last night of operation. We look forward to continuing to serve you at Red Drum Restaurant.”

It’s always sad to see a local business leave the city, but I’m excited to see how Stars stacks up to expectations. If you are interested in checking out the new digs, head over to Open Table for reservations. The menu can be found HERE.
