VP Biden Expected in Charleston Today

If you are traveling in Charleston this afternoon, be prepared for delays. Multiple news outlets are reporting Vice President Joe Biden will be in town to attend the funeral of Peatsy Hollings. The McAlister Funeral Home on Savannah Highway is hosting the service.

The FAA has issued flight restrictions from 3:30 pm to 6 pm today, so expect delays around and in the Charleston International Airport during those hours.

The motorcade from the airport to West Ashley should also cause multiple traffic delays along I-526 and Savannah Highway between 4:30 pm and 6:30 pm. It’s recommended that you try to avoid West Ashley.

***UPDATE 4:15 pm*** Multiple news sites are reporting via Twitter that has landed. I-526 was briefly closed but is back open.

***UPDATE 4:27 pm *** After a brief closing, Savannah Highway is open again.

***UPDATE 6:00 pm *** Everything is back to normal

***UPDATE 5:25 pm*** I-526 is shut down again
