Normally, I wouldn’t dedicate an entire post to a national news story, but this one hits pretty close to home for me.
I was born and raised in Connecticut and many family and friends of mine are teachers or work in or with schools throughout the state. On a selfish note I am very thankful that no one I know works at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, but many others are not that lucky. It is obviously still a heart-breaking story where words really fail to capture the emotions of the day.
A friend of mine (In fact, I was partnered with her during our best friends’ wedding) had a niece in one of the kindergarten classes at Sandy Hook. Another friend has a mother who works at the Middle School in Newtown. They are all thankfully ok. I am blessed that this is the closest I will come to this tragedy. Many others are not as lucky.
I can’t imagine the horror those poor children have witnessed and how devastated that community must be.
I never would have imagined something like this would happen in Connecticut. It’s an amazing place to live and grow-up. I never felt anything less than safe in every town I visited while there. It’s shocking and sad to see this occurring there.
Clearly, no town, no state and no where in this country is safe anymore.
Please keep all the families in that area in your prayers and keep the faith that nothing like this will ever happen again.
