Former CofC President Ted Stern Passes Away at 100

Ted.SternThe College of Charleston announced yesterday the passing of their President Emeritus Theodore Sanders Stern. He was 100.

Stern was the president of the college from 1968 to 1978. When he arrived the school had 432 students and 28 faculty members. When he left enrollment had grown to over 5,300 students and 181 faculty members.

In 1974, the College of Charleston honored him by naming the student union building after him.

Even in recent years Stern was frequently seen around campus and was widely respected. You can read about all of his accomplishments in the official press release from the College of Charleston.

***Update 1/21/13*** – A memorial service will be hold today for Stern.
