Early Reports: Tropical Storm Eyeing Charleston

Tropical Storm Andrea has officially formed in the Gulf of Mexico and early reports indicate it is heading towards Charleston. In response, the National Weather Service has placed the entire coasts of Georgia and South Carolina (as well as parts of North Carolina) under a Tropical Storm Watch.

A Tropical Storm Watch means tropical storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours.

Charleston Weather (@chswx) says the storm could hit the city on Thursday night.

***UPDATE, 6/6/13, 11:15am***: Live 5 News is reporting:

Charleston County has moved into “readiness Operating Condition 4” in anticipation of the effects of Tropical Storm Andrea.

OPCON4 means “there is a possibility of an emergency or disaster situation, and it notifies our employees who may be called into our Emergency Operations Center to stay on alert and be ready to act if needed,” according to Cathy Haynes of the Charleston County Emergency Management Department.
