Close Call With Bull Shark on Folly Beach
A 10-year-old boy had a close call involving a shark during a surfing competition in Folly Beach on Sunday. An 8-foot bull shark reportedly bit a portion of the boy’s surfboard, which momentarily pulled him under the water. Thankfully, the boy made it to shore unscathed.
The Governor’s Cup surfing competition was postponed until September due to yesterday’s incident and several other shark sightings.
This is the third shark “attack” this summer. A 14-year-old swimmer was bitten badly enough to require surgery in Kiawah Island in June, while a man in Isle of Palms sustained a large gash on his foot after being bit in July.
