2013 MOJA Arts Festival Preview

mojaThe 30th Annual MOJA Festival kicks-off in Charleston on September 26th and continues on until October 6th. The festival celebrates African-American and Caribbean Arts and many of the events are FREE.

MOJA’s official site says the festival will “include visual arts, classical music, dance, gospel, jazz, poetry, R&B music, storytelling, theatre, children’s activities, traditional crafts, ethnic food, and much, much more.”

Below is a small sampling of what the MOJA Festival offers. There are MANY events, so be sure to see the detailed schedule on the official site.

9/26

5:30 pm – Carribean Street Parade – Brittlebank Park

6 pm – Opening Reception – Dock Street Theatre

6:30 pm – Reggae Block Dance – Brittlebank Park

9/28

9 am – Harold Smith Adult Tennis Tournament – St. Andrew’s Parks and Playground, 195 Playground Road

10 am – 3 pm: Heritage Day at the Charleston Farmer’s Market – Marion Square

10 am – One Day Junior Tennis Tournament – Charleston Tennis Center

3 pm – Block Party – Charleston Housing Authority, 562-A Meeting Street

10 am – Historic Site Designation – John L. Dart Library

11:30 am – Community Tribute Luncheon – Magnolia Plantation & Gardens

8:30 pm – R&B Concert featuring Anthony Hamilton and Special Guest – Joe Riley Stadium

4 pm – MOJA Finale – Hampton Park
