Best Chefs America Presents: The American South
It has been well documented that Charleston, and the American South as a whole, has become a culinary destination for those seeking memorable experiences and incredible meals. The region is full of restaurants serving everything from straight-forward Southern fare to innovative hybrid cuisines from some of the most revered chefs in the nation, and in some cases, the world.
As a resident of Charleston, it can be difficult to wade through all the social media posts, blogs, reviews, and advertisements to find the best places to eat. You never know if the content you are reading about a restaurant is sponsored or the product of a celebrity chef’s mention. Traveling to one of the nearby locales can be even more daunting.
With those concerns in mind, and the belief that chefs are the most reliable judges, Best Chefs America, a Charleston-based business, has created an expansive guide to dining in the South.
Best Chefs America Presents: The American South could easily become the most valuable resource for anyone looking to eat out at the best restaurants. The guide is full of entertaining essays from notable writers regarding each state’s cuisine, helpful tips, unique recipes, loads of information, vivid photography, and more. For the purposes of the project, BCA designated the following states as comprising the South: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Readers should not expect the same old regurgitated information from old press releases or magazine clippings – the names in the book came straight from interviews with over 5,000 chefs. Through those conversations, BCA was able to identify the most respected chefs within the region and gather as much information as possible on their restaurants.
The guide doesn’t tell people where to eat, but instead provides all the relevant information necessary to make an informed decision. It also allows readers to learn about each state’s culinary history and the direction its restaurants are heading.
The American South is the perfect way to navigate through the South’s culinary culture and collective dining scene. The guide makes eating out even more enjoyable by providing background on the restaurants, cuisine, and ingredients on the state or city you plan on exploring.
As for BCA, this is just the first in a five-part series of regional guides. Soon enough there will be similar options available for the rest of the country.
The American South guide is currently available for purchase online and in select retail locations (Avondale Wine & Cheese, goat. sheep. cow., and Savannah Bee Company).
