On the night of June 2nd, former state treasurer and current U.S. Senate candidate Thomas Ravenel tweeted that if Southern Charm, the reality show he starred in, was renewed for a second season, he would not be participating. Well, as many expected, T-Rav’s claim turned out to be a big pile of polo pony manure.

Ten days after Ravenel made his claim, Holy City Sinner reported that two separate Southern Charm castmates spoke out about his tweet. One of the cast members outright said T-Rav’s claim was a lie, while Shep Rose told 105.5 The Bridge’s “Box and Kelly in Morning” that Ravenel may have made those comments out of anger. Rose stopped short of saying Ravenel wasn’t being truthful, but many (this blogger included) chose to read between the lines.

Turns out that was the correct thing to do, because just a day after Bravo confirmed the return of Southern Charm, Ravenel backtracked on his original claim. In an e-mail sent to local media outlets, T-Rav explained his decision to return:

“I struggled with this decision in light of the political campaign I am undertaking. Ultimately it came down to this: It doesn’t make sense to turn down a platform that enables you to spread your ideas to a bigger, more diverse audience.”
