Volunteers Needed to Get Cancer Patients on Road To Recovery

Published

on

Cancer-SocietyEvery day, numerous cancer patients need something as simple as a ride to their medical facility for treatment, but they are unable to find one. To help solve this problem, the American Cancer Society is recruiting volunteers for its Road To Recovery program in Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester and Georgetown counties.

Many of the people assisted by the program do not own a vehicle, cannot afford bus fare, are elderly and unable to drive, or do not have access to public transportation. Through the Road to Recovery Program, these patients are matched up with volunteers who will provide free transportation to and from treatment.

Anyone interested in volunteering must:

  • Have a good driving record
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Automobile insurance
  • A vehicle in good working condition.

The American Cancer Society will provide free training. For more information on becoming a volunteer, contact Fronde Merchant at Fronde.merchant@cancer.org or 843-744-1922.
