Steven Colbert dancing with the American flagA personal fiance website called WalletHub says Charleston is the 4th most “American” City in the country.

The website conducted a study to determine the most (and least) “American” cities based on which had demographics that were closest to the U.S. average. The results were based on the examination of the “demographical statistics” – things like age, gender, income, household makeup, etc. – for 366 of the largest metro areas in the country. The data came from the U.S. Census and Zillow.

Nashville topped the list, while Cincinnati and Indianapolis came in second and third respectively. Here’s where the other cities from the Palmetto State ranked:

  • Greenville (6)
  • Columbia (20)
  • Spartanburg (60)
  • Anderson (160)
  • Myrtle Beach (246)
  • Sumter (254)
  • Florence (263).

For those interested, McAllen, Texas was ranked the least “American” City. You can see the full results here. More details can be found in the graphics below.

Earlier this month, WalletHub released a list of the best and worst education systems in the country. South Carolina was ranked 42nd.
