Hogs For The Cause Comes to Charleston this October
The inaugural Hogs for the Cause Charleston, a music and food fundraising event, will take over The Grove at Patriots Point on October 4th from 11 am until 10 pm.
The party, which originated in New Orleans, will feature an impressive lineup of music and pit masters. Musicians scheduled to perform include:
- Drive-By Truckers
- Heartless Bastards
- Soul Rebels Brass Band
- Whiskey Shivers
- Sol Driven Train
- Dead 27s
Pit masters will include:
- Rodney Scott (Scott’s Bar-B-Que, Hemingway, SC)
- Jimmy Hagood (Food for the Southern Soul)
- John Haire (Nick’s BBQ)
- Conyers Family BBQ (Manning, SC)
- Aaron Siegel (Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ)
- Mark Behr (Sweatman’s BBQ, Holly Hill, SC)
- Lynn and Norton Hughes (Shuler’s Bar-B-Que, Latta, SC)
A group of New Orleans-based chefs (and local celbu-chef Sean Brock) will also be on-site serving specialty dishes for those who purchase a VIP ticket dubbed the “Local Palate VIP.” Visiting chefs include:
- Justin Devillier (Executive Chef of La Petite Grocery, James Beard Award finalist, and Bravo Top Chef Contestant Season 11)
- Aaron Burgau (Executive Chef of Patois)
- Ryan Prewitt (executive Chef of Pêche, two-time James Beard Award winner)
Tickets for the event are on sale now at www.hogscharleston.org. Options include:
- The early bird “Hog” general admission tickets – $30 each
- Pork samples are an additional $7 per portion
- The “PassPork” – $75
- Includes admission, a sample dish from all eight vendors, and access to the PassPork line for faster service
- The “Local Palate VIP” – $200
- Same benefits of the “PassPork” ticket
- An open bar with Husk restaurant bartender Rod Weaver
- Specialty dishes served by the visiting chefs and Sean Brock
- Use of a private restroom
According to a press release, Hogs for the Cause “provides aid and relief of those variable expenses and economic burdens which families face while their child is being treated for pediatric brain cancer. Currently, Hogs for the Cause—which has partnered with several hospitals nationally, including MUSC Children’s Hospital—operates as the premier funding source for pediatric brain cancer outreach services in the United States and has given grants to over 200 families in need in just six years.”
