The 2014 Taste of Charleston Starts this Friday

tasteofcharlestonThe Southern Living Taste of Charleston, one of the Holy City’s most anticipated events, will be held this weekend. The 34th annual festival begins this Friday and will continue through Sunday.

Here’s a look at this year’s scrumptious events:

Friday, September 26th

  • Iron Chef Competition – Culinary Institute of Charleston’s Palmer Campus from 6 pm – 9 pm
    • A showcase of local chefs in a head-to-head battle. Chefs have 45 minutes to create and cook at least 4 dishes featuring a secret ingredient
    • Contestants: Chef Kelly Franz (Magnolias) and Landen Ganstrom (Crave Kitchen + Cocktails) versus Allison Porter (Tristan Events) and Mike Petrillo (Lokal Seabar Restaurant)
    • Amphitheater seats are sold out, but general admission tickets are still available. They include a televised viewing of the competition in a viewing room with complimentary beer, wine and heavy hors d’oeuvres
    • Tickets are $25

Saturday, September 27th

  • Sweet & Southern on Charleston Harbor – Harborside East from 6 pm – 9 pm
    • Southern fare from Swig & Swine, Middleton Place Restaurant, and Graze. Culinary Institute of Charleston providing the sweets.
    • Singer-songwriter showcase with Hank Futch and Phillip Lammonds.
    • Tickets are $50

Sunday, September 28th

  •  Main Event – Boone Hall Plantation from 10 am until 5 pm.
    • Over 50 Lowcountry restaurants serve sample size portions
    • Beer/wine
    • Demonstrations from Southern Living
    • Specialty and imported beer tasting tent
    • Live music
    • The popular “Waiters’ Race”
    • A children’s area
    • Kid’s Kitchen Sideshow

      • 11:30 am – 4 pm: Appearance by Ronald McDonald

      • 12:45 pm, 2:45 pm, and 3:30 pm: Sing-a-longs with Miss Irene Rose

      • 1:30 pm and 2:30 pm: Demonstrations with Home Spun Hoops

      • 2 pm and 3 pm: Magic Shows with Ronald McDonald

    • Tickets are $17.50 ($25 on the day of).
    • The event benefits The Ronald McDonald House, Hollings Cance rCenter, Hospitality Heroes, ShrinersHospitals for Children and Charleston County Schools Science Materials Resource Center
  • Shuttle Service for the event includes pickup locations at:
    • Charleston Visitors Center, 375 Meeting Street
      • Depart to Boone Hall at 10 am and 12 pm
      • Return to Visitors Center at 2 pm and 4 pm
      • Cost: $5 round-trip
    • Mills House Hotel (Queen Street Side), 115 Meeting Street
      • Depart to Boone Hall at 10:15 am and 12:15 pm 10:15 a.m. and 12:15 a.m.
      • Return to Mills House Hotel at 2 pm and 4 pm
      • Cost: $5 round-trip
    • East Cooper Hospital, 2000 Hospital Drive, Mount Pleasant
      • Starting at 10 am and running until 5 pm
      • Cost: Complimentary
    • Laing Middle School, 1560 Mathis Ferry Road, Mount Pleasant
      • Starting at 10 am and running until 5 pm
      • Cost: Complimentary
