New York City’s Big Gay Ice Cream Truck (BGICT) is making its first trip below the Mason-Dixon line for a five-city tour of the South, including a stop in Charleston.

BGICT will roll into the Holy City on Sunday, October 19th and will be parked at Butcher & Bee from 3 pm until 10 pm (estimated times).

The company’s stop in Charleston (and the rest of its Southern odyssey) is part of its 5th anniversary celebration. BGICT’s blog says they want to “return to their roots and bring tasty and whimsical treats to a completely new audience” exactly like they did when they started the company in 2009.

By 2011 the company had outgrown its seasonal food truck, so the first Big Gay Ice Cream Shop opened in New York City’s East Village. A West Village location emerged a year later and there are plans for shops to open Los Angeles and Philadelphia.

BGICT is known for its playfully named flavors – Salty Pimp and Bea Arthur to name two – and the unique combination of ice creams and toppings. The aforementioned flavors are expected to be available in Charleston alongside some regionally-influenced specialities.

What a wonderful treat! BTW…who will be checking that they have the required City of Charleston Business Licence and are collecting and remitting the Sales and Hospitality taxes as other food trucks operating in Charleston are required to do??
