philippinesfestThis Saturday, the “Song for the Philippines” Music Festival will be held at Brick House Kitchen in James Island. The benefit show will begin at 1 pm and run until 11 pm.

About a year ago, the Philippine Islands were devastated by Typhoon Haiya. Proceeds from this event will go directly to the country’s recovery efforts. Organizers say the funds will help with the “education and training of children and adults alike in efforts to give them tools to rebuild their infrastructure and community.”

Local musician Tommy Gielingh had friends in the islands that died that day. The experience led him to write “The Song for the Philippines,” a tune that features over 100 local musicians. The song will be featured at the concert.

Performers include:

  • John Ford
  • Hi-5
  • Gino Castillo
  • Graham Whorley
  • Lee Barbour & Ron Wiltrout
  • CODA
  • Gaslight Street
  • International Morality
  • Psychocrystarro
  • The Jamisun Trio

The event will also include local visual and performance artists, food vendors, a silent auction, and a raffle. Tickets to the event may be purchased here.
