eatlocalThe 4th Annual Eat Local Month from Lowcountry Local First will once again include the Eat Local Challenge. Both begin on April 1st.

The purpose of Eat Local Month is to provide educational opportunities and events for the Charleston community to learn more about local foods, farmers, restaurants, and businesses.

Meanwhile, the goal of the Eat Local Challenge is to help consumers “make the shift” in their spending towards local products and businesses. Participants in the Eat Local Challenge will be asked to shift $10 of their weekly spending toward locally sourced food, drink, and specialty crops, which include fruits and vegetables.

Throughout the month, Lowcountry Local First will offer participants resources, recipe ideas, and tips to complete the challenge.

The Challenge will officially kick off on April 1st with a TweetUp at Local Works, and will conclude on April 30th. Prizes will be awarded to those who accumulate the most points. A finale event will be held at Dirt Works Incubator Farm on May 16th. For more information on the Eat Local Challenge, click here.
