Leftovers: Tidbits from the Food & Bev Community (8/11/15)
As you can imagine, Holy City Sinner gets inundated with press releases and information about upcoming events. The “Leftovers” series was created to ensure even more events got some screen time on the blog. These are not your typical leftovers, there are some gems in here:
- Wine Women & Shoes will host their 3rd annual fundraising event in at the Daniel Island Club to benefit the Florence Crittenton Programs of South Carolina. On September 27th, from 1 pm -5 pm, guests will stroll through displays featuring shoes, handbags, jewelry, and accessories; sip libations from some of the country’s top winemakers; view a live runway show featuring local celebrities; and partake in an auction, raffle, and shoe competition. Tickets are available for purchase online.
- On August 27th, The Shotgun Fairies, a Race for the Cure team, will host their “Showdown with Cancer” event at The Cedar Room at Cigar Factory. The event will include food, drinks, music, raffles, an auction and more. Tickets can be purchased here.
- The Charleston No Kid Hungry Dinner will return on October 11th at The Cedar Room in the Cigar Factory. Led by event host Steve Palmer and Chef Jeremiah Bacon of The Indigo Road Restaurant Group, more than 20 of Charleston’s best chefs – including Kevin Johnson, Frank Lee, Michael Perez, Nico Romo, Jason Stanhope, Jeremiah Bacon, and many more – will team up to serve guests a multi-course dinner starting at 7 pm. The event raises money to help feed children.
- The East Cooper Breakfast Rotary Club (ECBR) will host its annual charity run on Sept. 26th at Laurel Hill County Park. The Oktoberfest 5K Run-Walk is a Saturday run with an authentic German band and a Bavarian beer garden to welcome participants to the finish line. This event supports the club’s fundraising efforts for charities.
- Slow Food Charleston will host a Summer Potluck and Annual Membership Meeting on Sunday, August 23rd from 4 pm to 6 pm at Revelry Brewing Co. During the free event, attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite summer dish for guests to enjoy. Attendees will also learn more about membership with Slow Food USA, upcoming events, and scheduled promotions and more.
- The Park Circle Futbol Club will host the “Super Sultry Salsa Extravaganza” at The Sparrow on Friday, August 14th. There will be music and drink specials starting at 9 pm.
- Fresh Future Farm Inc., a nonprofit urban farm and community food operation, won $50k from the Small Business Administration’s Accelerator Competition.

- On August 29th, Bay Street Biergarten will host The Endless Summer Party featuring pool, super soakers, inflatable games, VIP Cabanas, Las Olas Bikini Girls, music by The CLUB Bullies, drink specials, and more.
- For two nights this week, Short Grain will serve late-night uni, karage at The Daily. The Post & Courier has the full story.
- Tickets for the Sam Adams Oktoberfest at the Visitor’ Center Bush Shed are now on sale.
- Barony Tavern’s owner and Executive Chef Robert Carter has named his nephew, Jimmy Carter, as the restaurant’s new chef de cuisine.
- Charleston Beer Week is just one month away.
- On Thursday, August 20th, the latest Blue Bicycle Books Charleston Author Series luncheon will feature popular Southern author Kim Boykin. The event will be held at Halls Chophouse.
