Charleston Musicians Create Song, Video for Emanuel AME Church
The love and forgiveness shown by the victims’ families of the Mother Emanuel AME Church shooting moved a group of local musicians to pay tribute to those affected by the tragic event.
The group, which is made up of both friends and strangers from the Charleston area, created a song and accompanying video that they released this week. You can see the full video for “Dear Charleston” below. Lyrics can be found at the end of this post.
Some of the clips used in the video were originally filmed by Holy City Sinner. The group was given permission to use it for this project.
Lyrics:
Dear Charleston Lord knows you’ve changed
You used to be divided keeping innocent people in chains
That’s in the past but oh no we won’t forget – We won’t forget
You’ve left those days behind we can feel your deep regret
Chorus
Now we stand united hand in hand
We don’t see black or white
Just our fellow man
The fight’s not over yet this we understand
It’s time to lay our weapons down
And love our brother man love our brother man love our brother man
(Choir Vocalizes) Dear Charleston
(Choir Vocalizes) Dear Charleston
Dear Charleston at a time that you could rage
You’ve turned the other cheek and turned another page
You won’t surrender Lord knows you won’t let hate win
You fill your streets with love and start over again start over again start over again
Chorus
Now we stand united hand in hand
We don’t see black or white
Just our fellow man
The fight’s not over yet this we understand
It’s time to lay our weapons down
And love our brother man love our brother man love our brother man
Dear Charleston
(choir vocalizes ooooooo)
Dear Charleston
(choir vocalizes ooooooo)
Dear Charleston
(choir vocalizes ooooooo)
