Leftovers: Tidbits from the Food & Bev Community (1/9/16)

  1. Starting today (1/9/16), 5Church will offer a weekly Saturday Brunch from 10 am -3 pm. They already offer brunch on Sundays during the same time frame.
  2. Starting on Wednesday, January 13th, Edmund’s Oast will launch Whiskey Wednesdays, a weekly chance to purchase select and fancy brands at reasonable prices. The series will run through January 27th. Click here for further information.
  3. On Wednesday, January 20th from 6:30 pm – 10 pm, Butcher and Bee will host a Guest Chef dinner featuring Jenn Louis (Lincoln Restaurant and Sunshine Tavern in Portland, Oregon) and Chef Ken Vedrinski (Trattoria Lucca, Code Del Pesce). The pair will work with B&B’s Chef Chelsey Conrad to prepare a course utilizing the recipes from Louis’ new book, Pasta by Hand. There will be wine pairings for each course.   4. Also on January 20th, The Glass Onion will partner with Dixie Vodka for a charity cocktail tasting from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. This tasting will feature two cocktails and small bites  for $10 per person. Half of eachy ticket will benefit Chase After A Cure. Tickets may be purchased here.
    1. Speaking of The Glass Onion, Chef Chris Stewart and the culinary team started a new annual tradition on Wednesday. For $12 a person at dinner, patrons can get a special Catfish Platter served family-style with fries, hushpuppies, and cole slaw. The specials runs through January 16th. Reservations are being accepted and aer highly recommended. 843-225-1717.
  5. The Cooper River Brewing Company recently opened their 7,500 square-foot facility in Wagener Terrace. Their initial lineup of beers incldues a Golden Ale, an IPA, and a Stout. They will be open Thursday-Sunday. Click here for more information.
  6. The AutoBanh Food Truck will be permanently setting up shop at Tin Roof in West Ashley. The Grand Opening will be on Saturday, January 30th from 11 am – 1 am. Normal truck hours will be 11 am – 5 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Click here for details.

    2. Also, Tin Roof has new hours. Tuesday – Saturday: 11am – 2am, Sunday: 12pm – 2am, Monday: 4pm – 2 am.
  7. On Tuesday, January 12th, 492’s bar manager Megan Deschaine will compete in the 5th annual Speed Rack cocktail competition held in San Antonio. The event spotlights talented female bartenders in the food and beverage industry while raising money for breast cancer research, education, and prevention. On Sunday, January 10th, patrons of 492 can enjoy Deschaine’s Speed Rack cocktails at the bar for the discounted price of $4.92. These discounts will be available during happy hour (5 pm – 7 pm).   8. Over twenty Charleston bars and restaurants are participating in Limehouse Produce’s 2016 Citrus Celebration.You can see the full list (with mouth-watering pictures) here.
  9. Charleston Wine + Food recently announced the finalists for the 8th Cocktail Competition. The winner will be announced during a party on Wednesday, January 20th. More details can be found here.
  10. Beverage companies interested in showcasing their products during BevCon Charleston in August, can apply here.
  11. Newcomer Hi-Fi Brewing will release the newest beer in their Lager Seasonal Series, Enchanter Baltic Porter. The third installment in series, this beer will be available in early 2106 in 6-packs and on draft.
  12. The College of Charleston’s new kosher vegetarian/vegan dining facility, Marty’s Place, will open on Sunday, January 10th. Take a look at the menu here.
