Free Skin Cancer Screening on May 2, National Melanoma Day
On Monday, May 2nd, from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, Charleston dermatologists and certified dermatological providers will partner to offer the public free skin cancer screenings. The event is being held in conjunction with “Melanoma Monday,” which raises awareness of the disease and other types of skin cancer. The American Academy of Dermatology designates the first Monday in May as “Melanoma Monday.”
Registration for the free screening is requested and may be made by calling 843-556-8886, ext. 1101 or by visiting the business’s Facebook page. The event will be held at the Dermatology and Laser of Charleston at 2180 Henry Tecklenburg Drive in West Ashley. The screening event was organized by Dr. Todd E. Schlesinger, a Board Certified Dermatologist, Dermasurgeon and Cosmetic Dermatologist.
According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, one person dies of melanoma every hour (actually every 52 minutes). This year there will be more new cases of skin cancer than the combined incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon.
