Just how big is the event? Last year, almost 71 million pounds of non-perishable food was collected nationwide.

This Saturday, our community’s letter carriers will collect non-perishable food donations from homes as they deliver mail along their routes. Residents are encouraged to place canned goods and non-perishable items in a bag and leave them near their mailbox. The most needed items are peanut butter, canned meats, fruits, vegetables, and grains (cereals and pastas).

All food donations will be delivered to the Lowcountry Food Bank where they will then be distributed to Lowcountry area pantries, shelters, and other agencies.

This food drive is especially important to the Lowcountry Food Bank as it prepares for the increased need for food assistance that comes in the summer months. While on summer break, many children do not have access to school feeding programs they need.
