Slow Ride and Bike Brunch Scheduled for 9/10
On Saturday, September 10th a bike ride and brunch will be held. The following is a press release regarding the event.
“RIDEdwin is Charleston’s first slow ride. Every year for the last six years, hundreds have ridden in this bike parade through downtown streets, with bystanders gawking and cheering, drivers
beeping (some out of support, others impatience), and riders empowered and happy.
RIDEdwin was the first ride in Charleston that brought all types of people, on all types of bikes, together. It began in 2010 as a memorial ride following the untimely death of community leader Edwin Gardner, who was killed by an automobile while riding his bicycle downtown. This type of group ride is becoming increasingly common, serving as a testament to Edwin’s vision of our city.
In 2016, it is more important than ever to continue this annual tradition, and to welcome even
more people to ride along. For many, it is their awakening of what our city can — and should
— be. This year, the route is changing. Instead of riding south of Calhoun as in years past, this
year’s RIDEdwin will celebrate the northern peninsula. The ride will culminate with a bike
brunch at Palmetto Brewery, with a special welcome to families and those new to biking.”
The ride begins and ends at the brewery. Click here for more information.
