Lowcountry Food Bank Asks Lowcountry To Help End Hunger

Published

Lowcountry_Food_Bank_logoThis September, the Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB), together with the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks, will mobilize across all 50 states in an effort to bring an end to hunger. Hunger Action Month is designed to inspire people to take action and raise awareness of the fact that 48 million Americans, including 15 million children, are food insecure, according to the USDA.

In South Carolina, more than 790,000 people struggle with hunger and may not know where they’ll find their next meal. That number includes one in four kids who may not have enough to eat.

Hunger Action Day, the second Thursday in September, is a day where efforts across the country are focused for greater impact. This year, on September 8, the LCFB asks supporters to “turn orange” to bring awareness to the issue of hunger.

In the Lowcountry, LCFB has many activities planned to engage the community in hunger relief and awareness building, including:

  • “Ton of Tuna” food drive
  • Factory to Table with Le Creuset
  • Charleston Table featuring Chef Kim
  • Whiskey After Dark presented by the Local Palate
  • “Fill a Plate” to bring awareness to the issue of hunger
