We Are Family Hosts “Spirit Day” Event on 10/21
On Friday, October 21st, We Are Family (WAF), a local organization, will mark Spirit Day by hosting an event featuring young LGBTQI artists of color. “Spirit Day: True Colors, True Spirit” will start at 6:30 pm at The Southern Gallery.
Spirit Day is a global event that encourages everyone to stand-up against bullying and show their support for LGBT youth. You can learn more about it from GLAAD’s website.
The local event will feature a program that will celebrate the creative expressions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and intersex (LGBTQI) youth of color. Highlights include:
- Musical performance by Blame the Youth (Charlotte)
- Fashion show featuring Gap inc., Buckle of Mt. Pleasant, and Lily Pulitzer
- Hosted by Jonatan Guerrero Ramirez
- Healing space and tarot card readings by Emery Acevedo
- Spoken Word poetry from Cayden Webber
- Vocal performances from local talent Will Buchanan
- Live fashion portrait sketches by Carrie Beth Waghorn
- Refreshments from The Cocktail Bandits and Pure Fluff
- Performance art from local LGBTQI youth of color
WAF is a nonprofit organization that provides support and leadership development opportunities for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, intersex, and straight ally youth
