Bridge Procedures In High Winds

Many people are wondering if Charleston-area bridges would close during Hurricane Matthew. According to authorities, bridges will not be physically closed, but you may be advised not to cross.

When winds become unsafe for travel, bridges will no longer be patrolled and you will be crossing at your own risk.

The Mount Pleasant Police tweeted a helpful graphic that provides bridge procedures during high wind events. Take a look:

Bottom line – If you can’t/won’t evacuate, pay attention to local media reports and do not drive if you don’t have to.
