Leftovers: Tidbits from the Food & Bev Community (10/31/16)

As you can imagine, Holy City Sinner gets inundated with press releases and information – especially from the food and beverage community. I created the “Leftovers” series to ensure I could share as much food and bev news as possible.

  1. On 11/17, Le Creuset L’Atelier in West Ashley with host a Cooking Demonstration and Tasting with Chef Jeremiah Langhorne of The Dabney (Washington, D.C.). The restaurant is celebrating its first anniversary and continues to garner national attention. The Dabney has been featured in Food & Wine, Bon Appetit, Wall Street Journal, and the Michelin Guide. Chef and owner Jeremiah Langhorne spent five years as chef de cuisine under Sean Brock at McCrady’s.
  2. Opal has launched a new happy hour menu. Available from 4 pm to 6 pm, Monday through Sunday. Options include: $6 Spicy Shrimp Bruschetta, $6 Small Charcuterie Plates, $8 Warm House-made Mozzarella, $2 Oysters, and $6 glasses of selected wines and other drink specials.
  3. The Southern Fried Chicken Challenge will now be held on Saturday, January 14th, 2017 from 1 pm – 6 pm at The Grove at Patriots Point due to Hurricane Matthew. Get your tickets here.
  4. Edmund’s Oast is now offering new weekly beverage specials:
    1. Sundays: ½ price bottles of wine
    2. Mondays: Magnum Mondays with cheap by the glass pours from magnums
    3. Tuesdays: all draft beers featured on the board are $5
    4. Wednesdays: Whiskey Wednesdays returns offering unique whiskeys at great prices
    5. Daily Happy Hour: $4 snacks and drinks (available at bar only)
  5. Speaking of Edmund’s Oasttheir “Vote Champagne” campaign ends on Election Night – Tuesday, November 9th. That evening, the brewpub will offer special prices and the opportunity for patrons to “vote” on their favorite champagnes served to be registered to potentially win a free bottle throughout the night.
  6. Local company Bittermilk has announced the release of their limited edition cocktail mixer No. 7 Yuletide Old Fashioned! The product features classic old fashioned spices and is bourbon barrel aged with cherries and orange peel. It is available now and throughout the holiday season. Click here to purchase.
  7. The Thoroughbred Club at Belmond Charleston Place recently announced some changes to the venue. They added 40 seats and updated the interior with new carpets and seating.
  8. Smithfield’s Helping Hungry Homes nationwide hunger-relief campaign will partner with Publix to donate more than 60,000 pounds of protein to the Lowcountry Food Bank. This donation is part of Smithfield’s 300th Helping Hungry Homes milestone donation tour, during which the company will donate to eight food banks across the country through the end of the year.
