Johns Island Farmers Market Begins 4th Year on 1/14
The Johns Island Farmers Market (JIFM) begins its 4th year of operation on Saturday, January 14th at 3546 Maybank Highway, across from the Johns Island Public Library. It’s Charleston’s only year round farmers market and is open every Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.
The market started on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 with 20 weekly vendors and has since expanded to over 50 local farmers, artisans, food vendors, and musicians.
Organizers also incorporate interactive learning practices in an effort to teach the benefits of making more informed sustainable lifestyle choices. The event incorporates local non-profit groups, cooking demos, interactive kids cooking classes, and more.
The JIFM is also the only local farmers market where anyone who is enrolled in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) can use their EBT cards at the farmers market Info Booth for tokens to purchase fruits, vegetables, plant starts, meat, dairy, bread, honey, and other eligible foods. As an incentive for healthy eating, they will receive $10 free in Healthy Bucks tokens for fresh fruits and vegetables when they spend at least $5 on their EBT cards, as a part of the Double Your Healthy Bucks program.
