Preservation Society’s 63rd Annual Carolopolis Awards Set for 1/19

On Thursday, January 19th, the Preservation Society of Charleston will host the 63rd Annual Carolopolis Awards at the historic Riviera Theatre.

Expanding on its tradition of recognizing exemplary efforts in the preservation, the Society has announced new awards for the preservation of historic interiors as well as compatible new construction. The introduction of an interior Carolopolis is the first award to celebrate and promote the better treatment of historic interiors. The premier award recipients are the Gibbes Museum of Art and the Eternal Father of the Sea Chapel.

Since 1953, the Preservation Society of Charleston has honored exceptional efforts to save historic structures through the Carolopolis Award program. The presentation of a Carolopolis Award plaque recognizes extraordinary private and public efforts to maintain the historic character of Charleston and the Lowcountry.

Advance tickets for the Awards presentation are $50 for members and $75 for guests and may be purchased at https://preservationsociety.org  Ticket price increases on January 16th. 100% of ticket sales directly benefit the Society’s vital mission of recognizing, protecting, and advocating for the Lowcountry’s historic places while promoting good urbanism and sane growth.

Founded in 1920 by Susan Pringle Frost, the Preservation Society of Charleston is the oldest grassroots historic preservation organization in America.
