Patriots Point To Host Free Memorial Day Play

Published

on

The current conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan will be the focus of two free showings of Griffin Theatre Company’s critically-acclaimed stage production, “Letters Home,” onboard the USS Yorktown.

The 90-minute performances will start at 2 pm and 7 pm on Memorial Day, May 29th, inside the USS Yorktown’s air-conditioned Smokey Stover Theater. Following the play, the cast will host a question and answer session with the audience.

Inspired by the HBO documentary “Last Letters Home,” and the New York Times op-ed article, “The Things They Wrote,” “Letters Home” reveals the humanity that lies within the ongoing conflicts of the Middle East. The actors pair real letters from the front lines with images and video taken directly from actual soldiers’ blogs and social media pages. Audiences will hear written accounts of the most difficult times, including training, deployment, separation of family and loved ones, and life and death in combat.

General seating for the show must be reserved in advance online at www.patriotspoint.org. You can also call the museum directly at 843-884-2727 Monday through Friday between 9 am. and 4 pm. Parking will cost $5. The theater will open 30 minutes before each showing.

I am planning on bringing a World War 11 war hero medal of honors to the May 29th show at 2:00 o’clock. Oscar , piloted 55 successful missions over Gaudlcanal when he was just 21years old. He must have a front row seat due to hearing impairment and vision problems. He is a special person and on Memorial Day , he deserves a very special thanks.
