Trio of Local Organizations Plan Kids Summer Camp
A trio of local organizations are coming together to host a kids summer camp at the Charleston Pour House during the week of June 12th.
Heal with HeARTs, Slow Food Charleston’s Tiny Tastemakers, and The Pour House invite children (ages 4.5-12) to learn more about the people, activities, and foods that make the Holy City such a special place to live.
Each day, the kids will participate in morning yoga, take part in hands-on lunch projects hosted by Charleston chefs, and experience different themed activities like:
- The Lowcountry Waterways
- Touch tank, shrimp prints in the style of Japanese gyotaku, sushi rolling, and designing a mural for the Pour House
- Cultures of Charleston
- Learn about Charleston’s cultural ties to West Africa and the Caribbean through indigo tie-dyeing, music, dance, basket weaving, storytelling, and more
- Plants and Pollinators
- Enjoying the fruits (and vegetables!) of summer in the garden; discover the small miracles that have to happen to bring food to your table; get dirty making seed bombs; explore herbs, spices, edible flowers, and other flavors with all of our senses; make pasta; and create a pollinator garden to take home
- Arts in Action
- Dance with homemade musical instruments, work on the Pour House mural, learn what it feels like and sounds like to be on stage, meet local musicians and artists, and more
- Field Day Fun
- Tug-o-war, bottle rockets, sack races, egg toss, water balloons, and more
Camp runs from 9 am until 2 pm each day through June 16th. To participate in the camp, fill out this application, and send it via e-mail to tinytastemakerschs@gmail.com or through the mail to Slow Food Charleston at 164 Market Street Suite 138, Charleston, SC 29401.
