MY HOUSE on Meeting Continues North Charleston Teacher’s Bikes-For-Students Initiative

The MY HOUSE on Meeting student apartment owners, Charleston-based Seine Group, and Atlanta-based South City Partners, have taken inspiration from a local North Charleston School teacher named Katie Blomquist. After hearing her story about providing every Pepperhill Elementary School student with a bike using a GoFundMe campaign, the team behind MY HOUSE on Meeting decided to try leasing their units in a new way to continue Blomquist’s goodwill.

For every unit leased, the property provided a child with an original custom-designed bike manufactured by local bike company Affordabike. The bikes were delivered to 10 students from Lambs Elementary School in North Charleston on Monday morning, along with new helmets from Safe Rides and bike locks donated from Affordabike and  Blomquist’s Going Places non-profit.

The students had no idea why school nurse, Deborah Martin, pulled them out of class and filed them into a line; she led them outside to the exciting surprise awaiting them. Members of Lambs Elementary School administration, Blomquist, and Katie Zimmerman of Charleston Moves attended the event, alongside the parents of the children receiving the bikes.  After learning the ins-and-outs of helmet safety, the kids tried out their new bikes, some learning how to ride for the first time.

Help continue the initiative to provide children in low income communities the basic human right of joy! Visit the Going Places GoFundMe page to donate today and give back to your community: http://www.gofundme.com/GoingPlaces2017
