Middleton Place Hosts New Citizens at Naturalization Ceremony on 6/26

On June 26, 2017, Middleton Place will host, as it has done since 2010, a naturalization ceremony in which immigrants from 16 countries will swear allegiance to the United States of America and become citizens. The event begins at 10 am under the oaks on the Greensward.

The 30 new citizens who will take the Oath of Allegiance emigrated from 16 countries:

• Argentina
• Armenia
• Honduras
• China
• Colombia
• Cuba
• Ghana
• India
• Italy
• Jamaica
• Libya
• Mexico
• Nigeria
• Philippines
• United Kingdom
• Vietnam

Following a presentation of the flag by a Colonial Color Guard and the singing of the National Anthem led by local artist Immanuel Houston, there will be welcoming remarks by Charles Duell, President of the Middleton Place Foundation. The Keynote Address will be delivered by John Tecklenburg, Mayor of Charleston.

Following the oath and Pledge of Allegiance, the colors will be retired and the new citizens will be presented with their certificates of citizenship. They and their families will be invited to assemble for photographs and to explore Middleton Place, a National Historic Landmark and birthplace of Arthur Middleton, a Signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Visitors to Middleton Place who have paid general admission are welcome to observe the ceremony.
