Pathway to Politics: Women of Color Leading Change Event Scheduled for July 25th
The Center for Women and the YWCA of Charleston are co-hosting the “Pathway to Politics: Women of Color Leading Change” event on July 25. In an effort to bring greater diversity and equality to America’s statehouses, executive mansions, and local councils, attendees will explore opportunities for women of color and discuss strategies for amplifying causes, developing advocates, and winning elections as women of color.
The event will include several women of color who are leaders in electoral politics and community advocacy who will talk with attendees about their experiences and provide practical guidance. Confirmed facilitators include Councilwoman Virginia Jamison, North Charleston City Council; Shaundra Scott, Executive Director of ACLU of SC; Tamika Gadsden, National Women’s March Organizer and Social Media Lead for Indivisible Charleston; Brittany Mathis, Executive Director of Friends of the Library and former campaign manager for Ginny Deerin for Secretary of State. Additional speakers and facilitators will be announced on the event’s website.
The event is being held at the ILA Hall on 1142 Morrison Drive. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the program will begin at 6 pm. The event is free to attend and advanced registration is required at:
