Charleston Pride Returns in September
Charleston Pride, the event where thousands of community members, activists, and businesses come together to celebrate equality, is back for its 8th year.
The much-anticipated annual Pride Parade and Festival is scheduled for Saturday, September 23rd. Starting at Wragg Mall at 9 am, the parade will march (and dance) down King Street then Broad Street, ending at Colonial Lake. The spectacle includes walking groups, dance studios, full-scale floats with DJs and performers, and more. Parade participants have the chance to win a number of awards, including “best use of music” and “most creative.” Parade registration closes soon, so visit www.charlestonpride.org/parade-registration to add your company, organization, club, church, or social group to the roster.
Following the Parade, spectators are invited to Brittlebank Park for the Pride Festival, which features live entertainment, vendors, drink booths, and food trucks.
For the first time this year, Charleston Pride is hosting a Storefront Decorating Contest. This free promotional opportunity gives participants the chance to showcase their business’ support of the LBGT community. Judging will be based on best use of color, message, and pride theme. The winner will be announced at the Pride Festival and via social media. Visit Charlestonpride.org/contest to participate.
Charleston Pride Festival is a nonprofit organization that seeks to provide lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgender persons with cultural and educational programs and activities that enhance mental and physical health, and provide social support through community activities and services, including an annual Pride event.
This year’s full calendar of events and ways to participate can be found at www.charlestonpride.org.
