Taylor Music Group Celebrates New Season with September Gala

On September 23, the Taylor Group celebrates its 2017-18 concert season: Classical and Folk in Harmony with food (provided by Blue Rose Café), wine, and musical selections highlighting upcoming concerts in the Taylor Music Group 2017-18 season. Performances will feature:

• Members of the Taylor Festival Choir, led by Founding Director Robert Taylor
• Na Fidleiri, led by Founding Director Mary Taylor
• Local folk combo Bart Saylor, Jim Carrier, and Mary Taylor

The Taylor Festival Choir (TFC) is a professional chamber choir based in Charleston, SC. Founded and conducted by Robert Taylor, the choir is inspired by the life and career of Bob Taylor, the conductor’s late father and a noted choral musician and pedagogue. Since its inception in 2001, the Taylor Festival Choir has toured and been heard in prestigious venues and festivals throughout the U.S., and has garnered a reputation of excellence among critics and choral specialists alike. TFC was one of only two American adult chamber choirs featured at the prestigious 2009 American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) National Convention and 50th anniversary celebration. They are featured in the ACDA Southern Division Conference again this February in Louisville, KY.

Na Fidléiri was founded in 2000 in Charleston, South Carolina by Mary Scott Taylor. Described as “one of the most unique ensembles in the country” Na Fidleiri’s mission is to give young people the opportunity to study Celtic music, and provide exciting concerts to audiences throughout the Southeast.  Na Fidleiri is unique in that it is a folk ensemble grounded in classical technique. Students produce a wonderfully full beautiful sound combined with idiomatic folk style, with refined intonation, precision and tight ensemble. Celtic music is music of the Celtic nations, specifically Ireland, Scotland and Brittany. Na Fidleiri trains classical violin players and fiddle players in the traditional style of Celtic music. Students also gain exposure to learning basic penny whistle and can also receive coaching in Celtic stylistic singing and songs. Na Fidleiri typically has a membership of 15-20 violinists/fiddle players, 1-2 whistle players and 2-3 singers. It is two-tiered, being comprised of a beginning preparatory group and a more advanced performing ensemble. They are accompanied by a professional band consisting of guitar, percussion (on occasion) and whistle/recorder
