21st Leukemia Cup Regatta Sets Sail September 23rd
The South Carolina chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will host the 21st Leukemia Cup Regatta in the Charleston Harbor on Saturday, September 23rd. The event raises funds to support blood cancer research and patient services.
This year, sailors are racing in honor of Lowcountry resident Ben A. Hagood, Jr., a long-time sailing enthusiast who is currently battling B Cell Acute Lymphoblasic Leukemia. This is the second time Ben has found himself walking this journey. He was first diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a form of blood cancer, in November 2010. Ben has enjoyed sailing in the Charleston Harbor all his life and he’ll serve as the Honored Skipper at the 21st Anniversary Gala and Awards Party.
The exciting day of open-water races culminates with the Gala and Awards Party featuring food, cocktails, live music, live and silent auctions, and more. The event takes places aboard the USS Yorktown. Members of the public are invited to visit www.leukemiacup.org/sc to purchase tickets for the gala and awards party.
