The 8th Annual Avondale 5K Run + Walk for Special Kids will be held at 8 am on Saturday, October 14th. The West Ashley event benefits The Charles Webb Center.

The Avondale 5K is the 6th largest 5K in Charleston and the only one in West Ashley. Despite Hurricane Matthew and the race’s cancellation, over $55,000 was raised last year.

Starting on Magnolia Road in front of Triangle Char and Bar, Avondale 5K runners and walkers (strollers and dogs are welcome too!) will make their way through the Avondale neighborhood in West Ashley.

The After Race Party starts as soon as participants cross the finish line. Triangle Char and Bar is hosting the party complete with music, awards, prizes, all-inclusive food, and drinks.

All proceeds from the Avondale 5K directly benefit The Charles Webb Center (CWC), a non-profit, day care center that serves children from age 6 weeks to 10 years old who have developmental disabilities and special needs. The Center is under the umbrella of the Able Life Foundation, formerly known as the Disabilities Foundation of Charleston County. To learn more about CWC, visit www.charleswebbcenter.com.

Runners and walkers have the option to create and name their own teams in an additional effort to raise funds. For the team with the highest amount of money raised, Triangle will throw a private party for 25 people complete with drinks and food!

The top winner will have the honor of their name being engraved on the prestigious “Stevie Award,” named after the late Stephen Condon in whose memory the race was founded.
