The Charleston Music Hall will display and host an opening for “SPRUILL,” works by Charleston artist Alex Waggoner, in the venue’s upstairs lobby on Wednesday, November 1st from 6 pm to 8 pm.

This new body of work focuses on Spruill Avenue, a long, winding road up “the Neck” of Charleston, connecting the tourism driven peninsula to North Charleston.

“Through this exploration of architectural individuality on Spruill, I aim to encourage a thoughtful dialogue concerning Charleston’s historical significance and the impact of gentrification,” Waggoner said via a press release.

Waggoner graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a BFA in Painting and Printmaking in 2012. She lives in Charleston and paints in her home studio. Her paintings are based on the traditional American Southern urban landscapes and architecture that surround her in Charleston.

Her exhibition will be on display at the Music Hall until Friday, December 1st.
