Call For Art by Fabulon
The following is an unedited press release from Fabulon
–
3rd Annual Not Your Typical Love Story at Fabulon
With the bells of the New Year still echoing in our ears, we will be confronted with hearts, candy, and the trappings of modern day Valentine’s Day.
Each year at this time we put out a call for our Not Your Typical Love Story Show. It started as a quest to battle commercialism, materialism, over consumption and narrow-minded views. We had the idea to show art that illustrated the many facets of love, a truer vision of Saint Valentine’s mission, and spread some empathy.
With so much news of injustice, incivility, instability, and insecurity, it is hard to imagine thoughts of love. Or that love could be a remedy. We thought of cancelling the show.
But that song by Hal David and Burt Bacharach keeps echoing. Maybe you remember the Jackie DeShannon version or prefer Dionne Warwick’s, or Boss Baby is your frame of reference with Missi Hale singing away.
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
it’s the only thing there’s just too little of
no, not just for some, but for everyone.
That says it all!
And it says hold on to that thought. Make it real.
Send us images that prove that loving your neighbor like yourself could really make a difference in the world. Show that love trumps hate every time. Inspire more people to realize that they can make a difference.
The song is apparently a conversation addressing the Lord. But this is a plea to all humans of any denomination, spiritual belief, struggling person even those brave enough to question, and daring enough to lift voices and pencils and paint brushes.
The lyrics go on to say “we don’t need another mountain”….but with our environment at risk and the EPA under attack, lest we not forget that ordering up another mountain isn’t really an option. So if we love it, we need to show it!
We are seeking deep connections to the idea that love will save the world. As cliché as that may seem, prove it could be true. Dig deep. Please no cliché images. Capture examples but also show some potential solutions.
