“Freeze Your Bills Off” at the 5th Annual Bill Murray Look-a-Like Polar Bear Plunge on Folly

On Monday, January 1st at 12 pm, the 5th annual Bill Murray Look-a-Like Polar Bear Plunge will take place in front of the Tides Hotel on Folly Beach. As you may remember, the event pays tribute to one of the Holy City’s favorite residents – Mr. William James Murray.

All attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite Murray character and prepare to “freeze their Bills off.” This year’s theme is Zombieland, the zombie comedy where Murray plays an over-the-top version of himself. The good news is your zombie Halloween costume can get some extra play. Cash prizes will be awarded for Best Guy, Best Girl, Best Kid, Best Team and Best Overall Bill Murray costumes.

Registration for the plunge begins at 11 am at the information booth on the beach and judging of the contests will begin at 12 pm. Attendees will then take the cold plunge at 1:30 pm. There is a $5 entry fee for the costume contest for anyone 18 years or over. Those participating in the contest will receive a discounted rate on the official event t-shirt.

Guests can enjoy pre-plunge cocktails and other drink specials, including Bloody Marys at participating Folly Beach businesses: Woody’s, Rita’s Seaside Grille, St. James Gate, The Washout, Chico Feo, Folly Beach Crab Shack, Jack of Cups, Loggerheads, Drop In Deli, Planet Follywood, Blu, Snapper Jack’s, Pier 101 and Sand Dollar Social Club.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Folly Association of Business, Folly Beach firework displays, Folly festivals and is a key contributor to city beautification and local charities.
