Keep warm and stay safe during today’s winter weather! Although I will do my best to pass along relevant and accurate information, be sure to follow local media, government, and public safety accounts too. They are professionals and will have the best possible information.

Travel is *NOT* advised in the Charleston area at this time. Do NOT travel unless you have to.

Latest Information (Last update: 8:05 pm)

• Winter Storm Warning remains in effect for Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley Counties until 11 pm Wednesday
  • Plan on difficult travel conditions, including during the evening commute
  • Cold wind chills
• The storm brought a total snowfall of 5.3 inches at the Charleston International Airport, which is the third highest daily snowfall amount on record.

• The Charleston Airport says runways have been closed by Joint Base Charleston. No flight operations are permitted until the Air Force determines the runways are safe for aircraft and passengers. Contact your airline to rebook a canceled flight.
• Dorchester Co. has issued a state of emergency. Click here for more info.
  • Dorchester County officials have also issued a curfew for all of the county except North Charleston and Summerville. The curfew starts at 6 pm and continues through 7:30 am on Thursday
• Due to ongoing hazardous road conditions, CARTA and TriCounty Link will not operate on Thursday.
• Charleston County garages on Cumberland and at King and Queen are open but the top decks are closed.

Generator Safety/Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

The primary hazards to avoid when using a generator are carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning from the toxic engine exhaust, electric shock or electrocution, and fire. Follow the directions supplied with the generator.

• Never use a generator, grill, camp stove or other gasoline, propane, natural gas or charcoal-burning devices inside a home, garage, basement, crawlspace or any partially enclosed area.
• Keep these devices outdoors, away from doors, windows and vents that could allow carbon monoxide to come indoors.
• Opening doors and windows or using fans will not prevent CO buildup in the home. Although CO can’t be seen or smelled, it can rapidly lead to full incapacitation and death. Even if you cannot smell exhaust fumes, you may still be exposed to CO. If you start to feel sick, dizzy, or weak while using a generator, get to fresh air RIGHT AWAY – DO NOT DELAY.
