“The Gullah Lady” Announces Workshop Series
On Thursday, February 22, at Lowcountry Local Works, The Gullah Lady, also known as Sharon Cooper-Murray, is pouring all of her 17+ years of Gullah storytelling experience into a six-week workshop series called “What’s Your Story?” Bridging the gap between the traditional art of Gullah storytelling with modern day entrepreneurialism, public speaking skills, and creative writing ideas. What’s Your Story: Workshop Series will be hosted at Lowcountry Local Works. The series will be on going, falling on every third Thursday of the following months until June.
Sharon Cooper-Murray is taking a huge leap in propelling the sacred style of Gullah Storytelling and repackaging it in a way that is fresh and young for next generation to not only get invested in, but to find their own voice and begin telling their own stories. Understanding that the best way to preserve and sustain a culture is to educate and pass it down, Sharon is doing just that by introducing the Gullah Lady and her talents to the new Generation. These classes will not only touch on Gullah culture and dialect but will allow participants to explore the art of telling a story, touching the realms of public speaking, branding, marketing, and education. Throughout the What’s Your Story: Workshop Series local speakers of varying backgrounds will pop in to share their journey through storytelling that reinforces the ideals of the classes.
The “What’s Your Story?” workshop series is such a special and unique opportunity to understand the mastery of keeping people engaged, how verbiage and body language marry, and connecting the dots to market yourself and your brand through ancestral storytelling. Workshop Series is a great chance for participants to learn how storytelling connects us all from the CEO to the organic farmer to the student and beyond. Come, enjoy the classes and unlock the story within!
