The Saul Alexander Gallery is launching a series that highlights new artwork on display each month. “First Monday Gallery Night” kicks off on Monday, February 5th at 6 pm with an opening reception for this month’s featured artist at the Charleston County Public Library Main branch, located at 68 Calhoun Street in downtown Charleston. The reception is free and open to the public.

This month, the gallery is featuring Shawn Allison’s collection of linoleum block prints, which are inspired by the overlapping and ever-changing landscapes of city and rural life. Featured pieces represent the ebb and flow of nature and development in a modern world, and the designs accentuate the graphic nature in block printing’s potential for boldness using flattened patterns, linework and hard edges. Allison is a primarily self-taught artist born and raised in Michigan. He currently works in letterpress, creates art and lives in Charleston.

The Saul Alexander Gallery provides space for juried solo or group art exhibitions at the Main Library, and gallery submissions for 2019 are currently being accepted. Preference is given to work that reflects the varied experiences and viewpoints of South Carolina residents. To learn more, visit www.ccpl.org/saul-alexander-gallery or e-mail gallery@ccpl.org.
