Charleston Wine + Food Announces Partnership with One80 Place

Did you know Charleston Wine + Food is a year-round 501(c)3 non profit? Many Charleston residents are unaware of this fact. The organization says in 2017 the 5-day festival created an economic impact of $9.6 million. Since the festival’s founding, more than $400K has been distributed throughout Charleston’s culinary + hospitality community.

Additionally, they support One80 Place Training and several scholastic programs. The One80 Place Training is a 5-week crash course culinary program that teaches basic kitchen skills and readies individuals for a job in the culinary industry.

Overseen by Director of Operations Angela Dupree, the program features guest chefs that teach enrollees culinary skills like egg cookery, knife skills, mise en place, and more. The course concludes with an externship in a local restaurant where enrollees get on-the-job training. Since April 2017, 95% of program graduates have been placed in jobs.

As the Holy City continues to become a top destination for food travel and a hotspot for new restaurants to open, staffing has become a more apparent problem in the industry.

Charleston Wine + Food also plans to support One80 Place Training through financial contributions that will allow for scholarships to provide enrollees with transportation and housing assistance, a paid externship during the 2018 festival for current and past One80 Place Training students, connections to the local restaurant community to garner more involvement, and the support of recruitment strategies for enrollees.

In addition to support of the training program, Charleston Wine + Food will support the organization through food rescue post-festival.
