Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum, a Department of Defense  partner for the ongoing commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War, invites Vietnam veterans and their families to spend Thursday, March 29th at the museum. The nationally-observed Vietnam Veterans Day marks the day United States troops officially left Vietnam, on March 29, 1973.

Free admission will be offered to every Vietnam veteran and their immediate family members attending with them on Thursday, March 29th.  In addition, each Vietnam veteran who visits will be pinned with an official Department of Defense Vietnam veteran lapel pin. Inside the Vietnam Experience at Patriots Point, representatives from the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center will be present to answer questions about various programs that are offered to veterans.

“Throughout the past few years, we’ve become a place where Vietnam veterans gather on Vietnam Veterans Day,” said Patriots Point Executive Director Mac Burdette. “We hope the crowd continues to grow this year, and we are honored to have the opportunity to thank, celebrate and honor these heroes.”

At 1 pm, Patriots Point will host a brief memorial ceremony inside the Vietnam Experience Exhibit for those who were killed during the war.

The Vietnam War lasted longer than a decade and resulted in the death of more than 58,000 U.S. troops. A memorial inside the Patriots Point Vietnam Experience Exhibit displays the dog tags of each one of the 896 South Carolinians who were killed. Museum volunteers who served in the war will conduct tours of the exhibit throughout the day on March 29.

Normal parking rates of $5 per vehicle will apply. Free admission for Vietnam veterans is made possible by the SunTrust Foundation.
