Volunteers Needed to Build Bikes for Kids on 3/27
Due to popular demand, local nonprofit Going Places has added another opportunity for volunteers to help finish building the remaining bikes that will be donated to every child at Mt. Zion, a low income school on Johns Island. The build will take place at Affordabike on Tuesday, March 27th from 9 am to 12 pm.
If you’re interested in volunteering, you can sign up online at: https://www.goingplacesnonprofit.org/volunteer. No experience is needed. Affordabike will provide instructions and tools to all volunteers. The business is located at 573 King Street.
The bike reveal at Mt. Zion will take place on May 1st.
About Going Places
Going Places was inspired by founder Katie Blomquist, the North Charleston Title 1 teacher who created the GoFundMe campaign that raised over $80,000 to get all 650 students in her elementary school a new bike and lock helmet. Going Places will continue this work on a much larger level, providing the most basic childhood right to disadvantaged kids – a right to Joy. Currently that joy is being spread by giving out bikes! The organization also provides joy to the teachers and staff who work in Title 1 schools.
