PURE Theatre Wraps 15th Anniversary Season with “Straight White Men”
On Friday, April 27th, PURE Theatre opens Straight White Men, the final production of the 15th Anniversary Season. Tackling the reality of power and privilege, Straight White Men follows Ed and his three adult sons who, when they come together to celebrate Christmas, enjoy cheerful trash-talking, pranks, and takeout Chinese. But amidst the camaraderie, they confront a problem that even being a happy family can’t solve: When identity matters, and privilege is problematic, what is the value of being a straight white man?
Written by award-winning playwright, Young Jean Lee and directed by PURE Theatre co-founder, Rodney Lee Rogers, Straight White Men will feature a cast including Randy Neale, David Mandel, Paul Rolfes, and R.W. Smith. The production runs Friday, April 27, 2018 through Saturday, May 19, 2018. Regular performance times are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 pm with an added matinee performance at 3:00pm on Saturday, May 12, 2018. PURE will offer Pay-What-You-Will performances on Thursday, April 26 and Wednesday, May 2. The Halsey Post-Show Talkback is Thursday, May 3 at 7:30 pm. Members of the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art and friends of the College of Charleston School of the Arts receive 20% off their tickets on Halsey Talkback Night!
