Nearly 30 Charleston Restaurants will Participate in National Dining Out for Life Event

Nearly 30 Charleston-area restaurants, food trucks, and bars will participate in Dining Out for Life on Thursday, April 26th to help raise awareness and funds for the fight against HIV/AIDS in Charleston. Proceeds from the event will go directly to the Ryan White Wellness Center at Roper St. Francis.

The Ryan White Wellness Center is a federally-funded medical home for people in the in the tri-county area living with HIV/AIDS and a prevention center for who those who are negative. Since 2000, the organization has pledged to become a premier healthcare provider in the fight against HIV/AIDS and the preferred HIV care in the Lowcountry. All services are free to those who qualify. Its vision is to foster an HIV-free generation through quality care, case management, prevention, outreach and advocacy.

Overall, more than 3,000 restaurants across the United States and Canada will donate a portion of their proceeds from Dining Out For Life to the licensed AIDS service agency in their city. More than $4 million a year is raised during this event to support the missions of 60 HIV/AIDS service organizations.

Now in its eighth year in Charleston, Dining Out for Life is one of Ryan White Wellness Center’s top fundraising opportunities. In 2017, the one-day-only event raised close to $60,000 from generous restaurants in the community.

Operations remain ‘as-is’ for participating restaurants, but many choose to offer exclusive menu options and drink specials to raise awareness of the cause during their service hours. Taco Boy in downtown Charleston will host the official Dining Out for Life celebration with Takeover Charleston. The event will take place from 5:30 – 9 pm on Thursday, April 26th. DJ Trevor D. will supply the tunes with performances by local entertainers Carmella Monet Monroe, Jaisee Alexander, Victoria Vixen and Symone N. O’Bishop. A drag show will begin at 8 pm. All proceeds will benefit the Ryan White Wellness Center.
